The 2013 Camping Season is nearly here!

Camp is the ideal setting for kids to connect with nature, friends, and God. Fun outdoor activities keep campers engaged. Dedicated leaders encourage campers and guide them in forming relationships with friends old and new. Opportunities for worship and service help campers to develop Christian faith.

This year our theme is “All Things New,” following camp curriculum developed by the National Council of Churches. These activities will help campers discover the fullness of God, who they are created to be, and what they are created to do.

Our Church of the Brethren camp directors are currently looking for counselors and counselors-in-training. If you would like to volunteer for a memorable week at Camp Colorado, please e-mail Jan Hurst at jandesign@cox.net.

In Loving Memory

The Camp Colorado Board, former directors, counselors, nurses, cooks, and campers are mourning the loss of our beloved co-manager, Darrel Jones. Darrel and his wife of 40 years, Rosi, have served tirelessly as the summer managers of the camp for the last 10 years. His passing leaves a big hole in our hearts and in the leadership of the camp. He will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to Camp Colorado. Donations may be mailed to the Wiley Community Church of the Brethren, P.O. Box 39, Wiley, CO 81092.

State Child Care Inspection Shows NO Violations

We are thrilled to have received this! A state inspection with zero violations is very rare. This achievement is the result of a LOT of persistent hard work on the part of our managers who make sure every I is dotted and every T is crossed. Additionally, we were able to achieve this because of the great work of the leaders of our weekly camps and the parents of our campers because it is so important that we have all of the health forms filled out completely with a health certificate and immunization record. Thank you!

Colorado Wildfire Update

As of Tuesday afternoon, June 26th 2012, we could smell smoke in the air and see smoke to the south. Here is a map showing where the fire is and where Camp Colorado is.

Work Camp 2012

Steve, Wade, and Allan are getting it done!

We had about 70 people here for our annual Work Camp over Memorial Day Weekend and boy did they work hard! Here’s a partial list of what they got done.

Re-built the retaining wall below the Valley View girls’ cabin.
Planted dozens of flowers in pots and planters all over the grounds.
Repainted the deck of the manager’s cabin.
Repainted the deck on the Recreation Hall.
Repaired the roof of the gazebo.
Dug up too much thistle.
Chopped and stacked bunches and bunches of firewood.

We had people here from Quinter (KS), Denver, McClave, Ottawa (KS), McPherson (KS), and Moundridge (KS). We’re ready for the 2012 season!
